Venera writes: Attended Rider College for two years.  Spent the summer in California and took a job at RCA Electronics in Hightstown upon my return. Met, dated, and married an Air Force guy from Iowa, Richard Monahan, in 1966. Had our first child, Kendall, in New Jersey. Moved to Nebraska where we lived for 7 years and had our second child, Shannon. Moved to Indiana in 1975 when Richard took a job with Bendix Corp.  I took a job with the City as Secretary/Admin. Assitant to the Chief of the South Bend Fire Dept, where I worked for 20 years doing the Chief’s correspondence, peronnel and payroll.  It was the best working experience of my life, such a great group of guys.  In 1995, Richard took an early reitirement and we purchased the Oliver Inn Bed and Breakfast.  I worked another year then retired in 1996.  We are now both fulltime Innkeepers, playing host and hostess to people from everywhere you can imagine.  We have 9 rooms, some with fireplaces, private balcony or double whirlpool tubs and host many corporate travelers as well as leisure travelers, weddings, small receptions, Victorian teas, etc.  We are in the same town as the University of Notre Dame and host people from all over the country who come in for football games and other events.  It has been a wonderful experience and we love this magnificent old mansion as well as the historical aspect of the home and neighborhood.  We are located right next door to the Studebaker mansion, now a lovely restaurant called Tippecanoe Place; and just one block away from the Oliver Mansion, now a house museum.

Both children are married now, Kendall lives in chicago with his lovely wife, Nina,(just 1 and a half hour away) and Shannon in Dallas with her husband, Mark.  We don’t have any grandchildren yet, thy are all taking their own sweet time about it so we went out and got our own grandchild, Mr. Oliver. he is our big baby (a 150 lb Newfoundland) and loves to greet our guests with nose prints on their car windows. You can see him also on our website.

We look forward to seeing everyone in September. It would be great to have email addresses for all of you who have one and someone to set up a newsgroup or chat room.  Also it would be good for everyone to bring their yearbook to match up faces with those “kids” that were the Class of ‘62.  I can’t find mine so I’ll have to look at yours over your shoulders. This is a wonderful idea and I thank all of you for taking the time and effort to pull it all together. I know it’s a lot of work.

Thanks so much and looking forward to September.

Best Regards,

Venera (Golino) Monahan
