After graduating from the College of New Jersey (Trenton State) I taught English in Turkey as a Peace Corps volunteer. Then got a Master’s in English with a medieval lit. major at Temple U. Taught English at Trenton HS for 6 years, freelanced for ETS and taught part-time at Trenton State. Was director of communications/publications for a professional association for 5 years. Went on to NJ dept of Ed for 8 years to coordinate alternate route to teach certification for 2 years and then served as director, state board of education. Finally, worked for 5 years as personnel director for the New Brunswick school system.
I am now writing a book about how my family’s village in Poland was burned and our survival in a Nazi prison camp in Germany during World War II. I didn’t talk about it much when most of you knew me because I was too busy putting it behind me. Now I must write about those years in order to make peace with the past.
I am happily married to Henry Talarsky, a retired teacher. It is a second marriage for both of us. I love to travel and Henry’s motto is “have bag, will travel.” I am active in interfaith dialogue, meditation, gardening, swimming, and try to live healthy because I want to be around a long time.
